Here is my contribution to this weeks Illustration Friday word challenge.
Trees, shading & shapes are my go to items when I’m suffering from artist block. When I saw this word appear as a challenge I was excited (I know I live in a sad world if I get excited over the word tree … such is the mind of an artist) There is something comforting about sketching trees that makes everything around me go away.
This is the 1st version from the beginning of this year for The Sketchbook Project 2012. My word challenge for the project was HOPE. I believe this was the 1st or second item in the book & can be seen in older posts on this blog.
NOW …………. compare to the latest version
1st off …… sadly this piece is a tad to big for my scanner sooo there is the off-color at the top. This piece was commissioned off of the above piece. I kept thinking that HOPE can come from anywhere & as this tree grew & aged it had all these knots, twists & texture because of all it had been through over time. I also, ‘hid’ an anchor in the limbs of the of the tree because of a Hebrew proverb about Hope being an anchor to the soul. I found while sketching this version that the more relaxed I became the more the piece grew in strength & texture.
I hope you enjoy both pieces. I’m looking forward to you feedback
really beautiful and original, great work. I like both versions
