Sweet Squares Day 20, 21, 22, 23

I took a break from Sweet Squares for a little bit to create new greeting cards, tend to a commission piece & work for a group show in Dec. I still have 1 more piece to create for the December group show … Thinking about a giraffe or black & white graphite piece. Not sure yet.

Here are 4 days worth of Sweet Squares.

These two days were a week or so apart. The car piece was created while waiting in the school parking lot for my son. I figured if I was going to wat I’d give myself a challenge = quick line drawing of a vehicle. This was the jeep in front of me. I did this is fine point marker.  The duck was a combo inspiration of interest in giving my ducks a little more energy to hmmmm what if this was a Wilma Flintstone duck close up.

here’s where things get a touch weird. While we were in the no power … cold .. eating crackers & dried fruits … drinking water & not opening the fridge …. wrapped in blankets & layered in clothing …. lots of me & the kids together time … listening to the radio play the same Top 40 songs over & over … by the way new Taylor Swift song played every 45 – 60 minutes … playing endless rounds of solitaire, 3 people war & Go Fish …. I saw these figures in the bumps of my ultra fuzzy blanket. The bunny was created off of the sight of bunny ears & cheeks in the blanket. I didn’t mean to make him look so sinister I’m going w/the fact that I was fighting my annoyance at the time & it came out in him. The bird is a combo of how quiet things were & my sun conure who doesn’t like my son would only come out to get warmed by me or my daughter & to open his beak at my son. it looks nothing like my sun conure & was a quick lesser detailed square … ok it was getting dark & creating by flashlight was getting tricky.

Day 24 was just doodling to keep my mind going. I had yet another migraine but wasn’t allowing it to win. I would sketch no matter what was going on w/my throbbing skull & neck. All in all it was soothing. Kept me going & wasn’t a day w/o art. The duck here started out as a playing w/space & seeing what I could squeeze in. It then went to looking semi zombie-ish but I didn’t want to have a zombie duck tearing into people (Thank you Walking Dead. No proof animals were zombies) I decided to add a touch of punk look to bring this duck around. I remembered seeing a news report of “fashion” contacts & thought yes this duck could be off kilter b/c of those contacts. Add the spiked wide collar & you’ve got punk-ish duck.

Hope you enjoyed this breakdown & insight into how these were developed/created.
